Lisa: What are you doing?
Dean: I'm doing a project for the Eastgate Centre. Last year me, Jamie Livermore and Mike Harrington made a sculpture of the world cup which was quite a success, so Mike asked me to come back and do a project to celebrate the Chinese New Year. Seeing it's the year of the Golden Pig - I thought the best thing to do was to do a golden pig.
Lisa: So is it going to be on show with all the celebrations on Saturday?
Dean: Yeah, this Saturday the 24th of February there will be a dragon and martial arts down here and loads of other people celebrating. So I'll be here finishing off the pig and encouraging people to write their Chinese New Year messages.
Lisa: Where are they going to sign it? (duh!)
Dean: They'll sign it on various areas on the pig and the background.
Lisa: Right okay!
Dean: So it will be a bit like what we did in the Eastgate gallery (2006) when I would do an image of somebody famous and people would sign it to create a piece of art work with the community involved.
Lisa: So what's going to happen to it after?
Dean: I have no idea! I should imagine that the Eastgate will keep it for a while, and then some organisation might come along who feel that they can't get by in their life without a six foot by four foot golden pig and snap it up.

Lisa: I see you're giving out your leaflets announcing the opening of your Studio and my 'Spread The Art Word' leaflets too, so what do you think of 'Spread The Art Word?'
Dean: I think it's not only an excellent online community art magazine, but it's very well researched and put together, and gives everybody the opportunity to see exactly what's going on in and around the district.
Lisa: Thank you very much! Dean Smith Art Gallery is opening on 3rd April 2007 at: Studio 50, Barleylands Craft Village, Billericay. The opening times are 10am - 5pm Tuesday - Sunday (except Monday).
